Changes in Argentine Citizenship According to Decree 366/2025

Access to Argentine citizenship was also reformed by Decree 366/2025, introducing measures aimed at ensuring greater security, preventing fraud, and strengthening immigration controls.

What’s new in the Argentine citizenship process:

1. It is no longer a judicial procedure
Applications are no longer processed through the courts. The National Directorate of Migration will now be responsible for evaluating and granting citizenship by naturalization.

2. Mandatory continuous residence
Applicants must have lived genuinely and continuously in Argentina. Temporary stays or precarious residence permits are not considered valid for this process.

3. Background checks
The Migration Office will verify that:

  • The applicant has no criminal record.

  • No document fraud has been committed.

  • The applicant does not pose a risk to national security.

4. Citizenship through investment
A new category has been introduced: individuals who make a significant investment in Argentina may apply for citizenship. The Ministry of Economy will determine whether the investment qualifies.
